Lebanese Parliament to elect President 2007Lebanon’s parliament postponed Tuesday’s crucial session to elect a new president until October 23, an official told AFP.

“The session has been adjourned to October 23 at 10:00 a.m. (0800 GMT),” a spokesman for parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said.

Both March 14 and opposition MPs arrived at the parliament building, but only the former group’s ministers entered the assembly hall.

Three MPs of the Development and Liberation bloc headed by Speaker Nabih Berri entered the parliament assembly hall, but no one from the Hezbollah bloc was present.

Seventy-six MPs were present at the session, while the required quorum to hold a presidential election session is 86.
Ironically, the number of MPs who were present inside the parliament building was 91.

“They’ll sort it out. They’re just playing around. Everyone is fed up. Each side wants to show it’s stronger so they’ll just keep delaying to the last minute,” said a 25-year-old engineer in the Gemmayze entertainment area of Beirut.
