A Syrian Checkpoint in Lebanon?

A Syrian man was arrested today for setting up a checkpoint, yes in 2010, and for stealing a vehicle.

Tannous Mitri was driving his Mercedes on the highway earlier this month when he stopped at a checkpoint. Surveillance cameras showed a Syrian national holding a gun standing at the barrier and, according to the Internal Security Forces (ISF), the man asked Mitri to open the trunk of the car and pretended he was a member of the Anti-drug Department. When Mitri stepped out of the vehicle to obey the order, the suspect jumped in and drove off, headed toward the border. However, the ISF was able to identify the suspect through the surveillance video and arrested him while he was trying to rob another vehicle.

During investigations, the suspect confessed to having stolen Mitri’s car and to having started forging the necessary documents in order to drive it into Syria.
