The outstretched hand to Syria reflects positively on Lebanon, says Sarkozy
French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that France’s decision to outstretch its hand to Syria was “risky.”
“I do not regret bestowing my trust in Syrian President Bashar al-Assad although human rights in Syria are violated,” he said.
In a speech delivered at the Elysée on Monday on the occasion of 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Sarkozy said that the outstretched hand to Syria reflected “positively” on Lebanon.
“When I took that risk, no one expected that it would be possible to reach this [stage],” he said.
