Former US President Jimmy Carter, British PM Goldon Brown expected to visit Lebanon

gordon_brown_jimmy_carterFormer US President Jimmy Carter is expected to visit Lebanon and Syria this month as part of a tour of several countries in the region, official Lebanese sources told As-Safir newspaper Tuesday. The same sources also said British Prime Minister Gordon Brown will visit Beirut on November 27. In April this year, Carter visited Damascus and met with Syrian President Bashar Assad. He also held talks with the exiled leader of Hamas, Khaled Meshaal, despite US and Israeli warnings.

Iranian Speaker Ali Larijani is also due in Beirut on Thursday at the invitation of his counterpart, Nabih Berri. Larijani is to hold talks with Berri, Hizbullah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun.
