Lebanese Sunnies ‘want’ civil war!
An imam was killed yesterday & five people wounded.
The shooting erupted between Sunnis and Alawites (whose Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is a follower of the faith) in the village of Sheikhlar in the Northern region of Akkar.
The village lies about 50 kilometers north of Tripoli, the scene of a recent spate of deadly clashes between the two communities which each support rival political factions.
In June and July, 23 people were killed in battles between Sunni supporters of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora and their Damascus-backed rivals from the Alawite community.
A point to note is that Alawites are an offshoot of Shiite Islam. The Village of Sheikhlar is also home to Maronite Christians.
Last Sunday, the Lebanese Army put down evening clashes in the mostly Sunni Beirut neighborhood of Corniche al-Mazraa.
So you tell me; Why this sudden eruption of ‘sectarian’strife?
