Ban finds little evidence that Israel claims Hezbollah is smugling arms

09May07

UN chief Ban Ki-moon has stated in the fifth semi-annual report on 1559 to find little evidence to support assertions by Israel that Hezbollah is funneling arms through Syria.

Aoun has stated previously that Hezbollah has enough weapons, and ‘smuggling‘ weapons is very unnecessary.

Ban denied media speculation that Israel and other parties inside and outside the region have provided weapons to the March 14 movement.

I reiterate my conviction that the disarmament of Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias must take place through a political process, which in the first instance depends on a resolution of the current political crisis and the establishment of dialogue and consensus”

“Syria had indicated to me its concurrence with the Lebanese Seven-Point Plan, which envisages placing the Shebaa Farms under UN jurisdiction until permanent border delineation and Lebanese sovereignty over them is settled,” the report said.
